This June: Top Drive In Movie Theaters in California
The Drive-In Movie Theater may have reached its peak in the 1960’s, but it still remains as one of the most classic California date night activities ever. Throw in a milkshake, popcorn, and perfect summer weather, and you’ll have a cinematic experience that tops the sit down theaters we are accustomed to today.
Below is our list of the top California drive-in theaters we suggest you should gas up your car, pick up your date, and drive to this month.
Fresno
Madera Drive In
Madera Drive In is a locally owned family business. They strive to provide the latest in movie theatre technology in a family-friendly environment. Come on Fiesta Tuesdays to see a flick at the low price of $6.50 per person! After pulling into your spot, buy some fresh popped popcorn and a soda from their extensive concession stand.

San Diego
South Bay Drive In Theatres
Ahoy, Matey! Welcome to South Bay, where cinema meets the sea!
The South Bay Drive-in first set sail in 1958 and soon became a backyard vacation destination for San Diego area families with kids and young adults looking for an easy breezy date night under the stars. The South Bay now boasts the best and brightest picture quality available at any drive-in! The South Bay Drive-In is open 7 days a week, 362 days a year – giving San Diegans a perfect reason for a drive-in movie date during any season.
San Luis Obispo
Sunset Drive-In
TripAdvisor named Sunset Drive-In as the 10th best drive-in theater in the US in 2014. And it was the only one included in California! Operating year-round since 1950, this vintage drive-in features more than 500 parking spots for film fans to enjoy the show. This theater drives a large following as many locals have grown up seeing movies at Sunset Drive-In and now sharing the memories with their children.
Seeing a flick at Sunset is worth the drive.

West Wind All Digital
With four locations in California, West Wind All Digital Drive-Ins has fine tuned how to give movie-goers a truly unique drive-in experience. From grabbing a bit at their fully stocked snack bar to game-filled arcades, it’s hard to beat a date night at a West Wind.
Los Angeles (LA)
Electric Dusk Drive-In
Showing the best 80s and 90’s movies at cheap prices, the Electric Dusk Drive-In is hard to beat in the LA area. Own a dog and don’t want to leave it at home? No problem, Electric Dusk is dog friendly too!

Mission Tiki
The Mission Tiki went through an extensive enhancement in 2006, upgrading to a state of the art projection system offering the clearest and brightest images possible. The parking lot was repaved, ticket booths were remodeled into tiki huts, and they remodeled the concession stand to match the tiki theme. The concession stand menu was also expanded. You can’t go wrong with seeing a movie at Mission Tiki.
Riverside
Rubidoux
The Rubidoux, with its original 1948 screen tower still standing tall, is the last of the classic drive-in theatres remaining in Southern California. Though it retains much of its original character, time has transformed this gem into a thoroughly modern outdoor theatre. The incorporation of FM transmitters and Technalight digital projection ensures the best possible picture and sound available.
A perfect date night shouldn’t include getting a heavy priced traffic ticket, but if you do get busted on your way to the movies, we’ll get you out of your ticket. The money we’ll save you can pay for another few dates to the movies. Talk about a happy ending!
